Isn't it the worst when you run out of an ingredient? Or misread the recipe and realise that you don't have the ingredient at all?

Never fear! Here are some simple substitutes that are sure to save you in your cooking endeavours.

BROWN SUGAR (1 cup) = 1/4 cup molasses + 1 cup of white sugar

CREAM OF TARTAR (1/4 teaspoon)= 1 teaspoon of lime or lemon juice

EGG (1) = 1/2 banana + 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder

YOGHURT (1 cup)= 1 cup of sour cream

SELF RAISING FLOUR (1 cup)= 1 cup of plain flour + pinch of salt + 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

HONEY (1 cup)= 1 1/4 cup of sugar + 1/4 cup of water

BUTTER (1 cup) = 7/8 cup of oil

VINEGAR= lemon or lime juice

CORN STARCH = rice flour

CREAM (1 cup)= 1 cup of coconut cream
